Finance Department

The Township of Mapleton Finance Department is responsible for all financial functions including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, property tax billing and information, water and sewer billings, managing and monitoring reserves and reserve funds, banking and insurance strategies, asset management, co-ordinating the annual audit and associated by-law preparation .

 

The Finance Department is involved in the annual budget process which is a combined effort between Council, finance and department heads.  The finance department provides timely financial data throughout the year to ensure that the budget is monitored closely.

 

The Department administers the Tile Drain Loan application process, co-ordinates municipal telecommunications and is responsible for submitting all financial reports required by the Province.

Overdue taxes are subject to a 1.25% penalty on the first day of default and an additional 1.25% interest will be added on the first day of each month until paid.   

Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the property owner from payment of taxes nor from penalty of late payment.  If a tax bill for the wrong property is received, return it to the tax office immediately.  If a mortgage company is responsible for paying property taxes on your behalf please forward the tax bill to them.

 

If the property has changed ownership, send the bill to the new owner or return it to the Tax office, indicating who purchased the property.  To avoid misdirected mail, please advise the tax office of any changes in mailing addresses.

Property Assessment

 

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for assessing all property in Ontario. Municipalities use this assessment for calculating the property tax. 

Please review your Property Assessment Notice received frm the Municipal Peoperty Assessment Corporation in the Fall of 2008. To learn how MPAC assesses properties or for details about the Reconsideration process, please contact them directly at 1-866-296-6722 or via the web: www.mpac.ca. The deadline to file a Request for Reconsideration with MPAC is March 31 of the tax year.
