The Township of Mapleton's Fire/ Rescue Emergency Response team provides fire suppression, medical aid, and auto extrication. Our Department takes pride in protecting the community from fire, life-threatening emergencies and dangerous conditions. We also provide fire safety education. Our team includes a full time fire chief, part-time fire prevention officer and 45 volunteer firefighters from within our community. We have a full fleet of rescue vehicles and two fire halls:

Smoke Alarms

Working smoke alarms save lives. Make sure yours are properly installed and maintained.

Top Tips

Test your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the "Test" button on the alarm.
It is best to use interconnected smoke alarms so that when one smoke alarm sounds, they all sound.
Ensure smoke alarms are installed in every bedroom, outside all sleeping areas and on every floor including the basement.
Change batteries at least once a year or when the low battery chirp sounds.
Replace smoke alarms when they are 10 years old or stop responding when tested.

Types of Alarms

The two most common types of smoke alarms are ionization and photoelectric alarms.

Ionization - An ionization smoke alarm is more responsive to flaming fires and a photoelectric smoke alarm is more responsive to smoldering fires.
Photoelectric - Photoelectric smoke alarms are the best type of alarms to be installed near the kitchen and bathrooms to reduce nuisance alarms.

Burn Permits

Create a free Community Connect account to request burn permits online. It just takes your email, phone number and address to get started.

Burn Permits can also be requested by calling the Township of Mapleton (519-638-3313) at least 24 hours in advance.

Campfire Information

You do not need a burn notification for personal campfires. For more information, please review the Burn By-Law.

Green Flashing Light

When you see the green flashing light, our volunteer fire fighters are responding to an emergency call. Please give them the right-of-way, pull to the right of the road, and allow them to pass safely.

To book your fire inspection, please contact Fire Prevention Officer, Cam Forbes at 519-321-1303 or request your inspection through the Community Connect portal. There may be a fee depending on the type of inspection requested.

The Township of Mapleton's Fire Departments service over 534 square km and 10,000+ residents. They have service agreements with the Township of Wellington North, Township of Centre Wellington, Woolwich Township and Wellesley Township.

This is an alternative water supply for public fire protection for residences that are more than 300 m (1,000 ft) from a fire hydrant and within 8 km (5 miles) of a fire station. You are encouraged to provide a copy of our certification to your Insurance Company or Broker as you may be eligible for a reduction in your fire insurance rates.
