Corporate Emissions

In the Township of Mapleton's corporate operations, the largest sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are fossil fuel combustion for transportation and building heating, and high-energy electricity use for processes such as water delivery, wastewater treatment, and ice pad refrigeration (pumps). Emissions can be reduced by retrofitting and managing municipal buildings for energy efficiency, electrifying the municipal fleet where feasible,

transitioning from fossil-fuel heating to electric heat pumps, and generating renewable energy.

To set measurable and transparent targets, we completed a baseline GHG inventory in 2021 and have initiated a series of studies to inform our low-carbon transition aimed at reducing emissions while generating cost savings. Energy and emissions are tracked and reported annually.
